Terms of Use
We wrote these to be clear, not to bury you in clauses. Use the tool for good things. Don't use it to hurt or deceive people. Everything else flows from there.
Last updated: April 2026What's in Here
1. Accepting These Terms
By visiting this website or using the lip sync tool, you're agreeing to these Terms of Use. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the service.
You don't have to sign anything or create an account — just using the tool counts as acceptance. So it's worth reading this, even briefly, before you upload your first file.
These terms apply to everyone who uses Free Lip Sync Hub, whether you're a solo creator, a business, an educator, or a developer running your own instance.
2. What the Service Is
Free Lip Sync Hub is a web-based interface for the open-source Wav2Lip AI model, developed by researchers at IIIT Hyderabad. The tool lets you upload a video of a person's face and an audio track, and it generates a new video where the lip movements match the audio.
We provide this service free of charge, without requiring an account. Your uploaded files are processed on a local server and deleted automatically after processing. We don't store your content or claim any ownership over it.
We make the tool available as-is. We don't guarantee it will work perfectly for every use case, and we reserve the right to change, update, or discontinue the service at any time — though we'd rather keep it running for as long as people find it useful.
3. Your Content & Your Rights
When you upload a video or audio file to Free Lip Sync Hub, you're telling us — implicitly — that you have the right to use that content. That means one of the following should be true:
- You created the content yourself and own the rights to it.
- You have explicit permission from the person who owns the rights to use it this way.
- The content is in the public domain or licensed under terms that permit this kind of use.
We don't inspect or verify what you upload — that's technically and practically impossible. But if your use of the tool infringes someone else's copyright, that's on you, not on us.
We claim zero ownership over any output video you create. What you make with this tool is yours. We don't watermark it, we don't retain a copy, and we have no rights to the result.
💡 If you're using footage of someone else's face — a public figure, a colleague, a friend — make sure you have appropriate permission to create and distribute a lip-synced version of them. This matters especially if the output will be published or shared.
4. Acceptable Use
Here's the broad picture of what this tool is designed for and what we're happy to support:
✅ Encouraged
- Dubbing your own videos into other languages
- Updating recorded content with new audio without re-shooting
- Educational and research projects
- Creative filmmaking and post-production
- Accessibility work — e.g. adding clear speech to a video
- Content creation on footage you own or have licensed
- Exploring what Wav2Lip can and can't do
- Self-hosting the tool for private or team use
🚫 Not Allowed
- Creating fake or misleading statements by real people
- Non-consensual intimate imagery of any kind
- Harassment, defamation, or targeted abuse
- Political disinformation or voter manipulation
- Fraudulent impersonation for financial gain
- Content involving minors in any harmful context
- Anything that violates applicable law
- Automated scraping or abuse of the service
5. What You May Not Do
These are the hard lines. Using the tool for any of the following is a violation of these Terms and may be illegal in your jurisdiction:
- Creating non-consensual deepfakes — generating lip-synced video of a real person without their knowledge or consent, especially in sexual, defamatory, or misleading contexts.
- Fabricating statements — making it appear that a real person said something they didn't say, with the intent to deceive viewers.
- Impersonation for fraud — using synthetic video to impersonate someone for financial gain, phishing, or any other deceptive scheme.
- Disinformation — creating fake news clips, manipulated political content, or synthetic media designed to mislead the public on matters of fact.
- Harassment or targeted harm — producing or distributing lip-synced content designed to humiliate, intimidate, or harm a specific individual.
- Content involving minors — creating any lip-synced content featuring minors in harmful, sexual, or exploitative scenarios.
- Circumventing access controls — attempting to bypass rate limits, abuse the upload system, or interfere with the server's normal operation.
- Uploading malicious files — attempting to exploit the server through crafted video or audio files.
⚠️ Non-consensual synthetic media is illegal in a growing number of jurisdictions, including many US states, the UK, and the EU. Creating it carries serious legal consequences — fines, civil liability, and in some cases criminal charges. We will cooperate with law enforcement if required to do so.
6. A Word on Synthetic Media
Lip sync technology is genuinely useful. It lets educators update course videos without re-recording on camera. It helps filmmakers fix ADR mismatches. It lets creators dub content into new languages affordably. We built this tool because those use cases are real and valuable.
But the same technology can cause real harm when used to make people appear to say or do things they didn't. We take that seriously.
Our position is straightforward: if the person in your video would object to what you're making, you probably shouldn't make it. That's not a legal standard — it's a human one. When in doubt, ask for consent.
If you're creating content that depicts a real person in any non-trivial way, consider adding a visible disclosure that the video has been AI-modified. Many platforms now require this, and it's good practice regardless.
7. Intellectual Property
Wav2Lip is open-source research software developed by Prajwal K R, Rudrabha Mukhopadhyay, Vinay Namboodiri, and C.V. Jawahar at IIIT Hyderabad. It is licensed separately from Free Lip Sync Hub — if you're building a commercial product that incorporates Wav2Lip, review its license terms directly in the official repository.
The Free Lip Sync Hub website — including its design, copy, and code — is our own work. You're welcome to view source and learn from it, but please don't wholesale copy the site design or content for your own project.
Your uploaded files remain entirely yours. We don't acquire any rights to them by processing them through our system. The output video you download is yours to use as you see fit, subject to these Terms and any third-party rights in the underlying content.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
We offer this tool free of charge and we genuinely want it to work well — but we can't make promises about it being perfect, always available, or right for every use case.
Free Lip Sync Hub is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind — express or implied. We don't warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or produce results of any particular quality. Output quality depends heavily on your input files, your hardware, and the inherent limits of the Wav2Lip model.
We specifically disclaim any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. If the tool doesn't do what you need, we're sorry — but we can't be held liable for that.
In plain English: we're a free tool run by real people. We'll do our best to keep it working well, but we can't guarantee it works perfectly every time for every file.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Free Lip Sync Hub and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of — or inability to use — this service.
This includes, but is not limited to: loss of data, loss of revenue, loss of business opportunity, reputational damage, or any harm caused by content you create using the tool.
If, despite all of the above, we are found liable for something, our total liability to you will not exceed the amount you paid us — which, since this is a free service, is zero.
Some jurisdictions don't allow these kinds of limitations, so they may not apply to you in full. Where local law provides you with specific rights that can't be excluded, those rights still apply.
10. Your Responsibility to Us
If your use of Free Lip Sync Hub causes a problem for us — a legal claim, a fine, a lawsuit, or any other cost — you agree to cover our reasonable legal fees and costs in defending against it.
This applies specifically to situations where you've violated these Terms, infringed someone's copyright or privacy rights, created harmful synthetic media, or otherwise used the tool in a way that causes third-party claims against us.
We're not trying to be heavy-handed here. The vast majority of users will never come close to triggering this. It's standard legal protection for a service that processes user-supplied content.
11. Termination of Access
We reserve the right to block or restrict access to the service for any user or IP address that we believe is violating these Terms, abusing the system, or causing harm to others.
We don't have a formal account system, so "termination" in practice means blocking access at the network level. We'll use this sparingly — it's not something we want to do — but it's something we need to be able to do.
If you believe your access was blocked in error, contact us and we'll look into it.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We won't make changes that materially reduce your rights without making those changes visible.
Continuing to use the service after updated Terms are posted means you accept them. If you check back occasionally, you'll always know where things stand. We're not in the habit of sneaking important changes into the fine print.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Because this is a globally accessible free tool, we don't specify a single jurisdiction — but we do expect users everywhere to comply with their own local laws regarding synthetic media, privacy, and content creation.
If a provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable in your jurisdiction, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the rest of the Terms will remain in effect.
